A VIKING RAID

In July each year a very colourful ceremony and probably the only one of its kind in the British Isles, takes place. The original landing and sacking of Peel which happened in A.D. 798, is re-enacted by local men dressed in Viking costume.

They land from a number of longships which are a replica of the longships of 1200 years ago. This is an occasion on which much fun is engendered and it certainly makes a never-to-be-forgotten ten days, especially for the children.
