James and Catherine (nee Clague)

Gravestone

Located on the interior front wall of the original Pakuranga Methodist Church which is now located in the Howick Historical Village in Auckland, New Zealand.

In the little Churchyard where the original Pakuranga Methodist Church stood before being moved to the Howick Historic Village. It is on Pakuranga Highway, main road between Howick and Auckland City,and is now surrounded by urban housing.

Transcription: In Loving Memory of JAMES QUALTROUGH, formerly of Arbory, Isle of Man, who died Oct 3rd 1881, aged 72 years. Also CATHERINE, Wife of the above, who died June 19th 1881, aged 69 years. "In Thy presence is fullness of joy"

Also their son, JAMES QUALTROUGH, who died May 13th 1896, aged 59 years. "Thy Will be Done"

Also EMILY, their youngest daughter, died 11 Oct 1941, aged 87 years.

Elizabeth Jane (Betsy) Cowan

Transcription: In Loving Memory of WILLIAM ANDREW COWAN who died October 30 1915 aged 74 years.Also ELIZABETH JANE beloved wife of the above, who died June 10th 1918 aged 78 years.

Note: Elizabeth was born in 1838, therefore would have been 80 years at death.

NB: ELIZABETH JANE COWAN was born ELIZABETH JANE QUALTROUGH daughter of JAMES and CATHERINE (CLAGUE) QUALTROUGH (above)

Transcription: In Loving Memory of WILLIAM QUALTROUGH died 31 December 1919 age 79 yearsAlso his wife CATHERINE MARY died 14 June 1919 aged 70 years. At Rest.

Also his brother RICHARD died 25. 12. 1921 aged 78.
LILLIAN ELSIE died 8. 4. 73 aged 77
KATIE SARAH died 12. 4. 84 aged 95

NB: CATHERINE MARY QUALTROUGH was born CATHERINE MARY LOVIE.LILLIAN ELSIE and KATIE SARAH never married.

Both WILLIAM QUALTROUGH and RICHARD QUALTROUGH are sons of JAMES and CATHERINE (CLAGUE)QUALTROUGH (see above)

 

Jane Bell Qualtrough - Hautapu Cemetery, Cambridge

Transcription: Erected by THOMAS QUALTROUGH in memory of his beloved wife JANE BELL who died Dec 13 1879 aged 23

"She is gone the delight of all who e'er knew her Her remains are consigned to the dark silent tomb She is gone and in sorrow has left us to wonder That all flowers so fair should be nipt in thy bloom."

NB: JANE BELL QUALTROUGH died in childbirth. THOMAS QUALTROUGH is son of JAMES and CATHERINE (CLAGUE) QUALTROUGH (see above)

This headstone is located in the Purewa Cemetery, St John’s Road, Meadowbank, Auckland.

In Loving Memory of JOHN, the dearly loved husband of SARAH HADDOCK, who died Nov 30 1903, aged 64 yrs. God Careth For His People. Also SARAH, his beloved wife who died Aug 11 1921, aged 68 yrs. Also Eveline Sarah, died Jul 5 1945, aged 67 yrs.

NB: SARAH HADDOCK was born SARAH QUALTROUGH on 11 September 1853 in Arbory Isle of Man, and is d/o JAMES and CATHERINE (CLAGUE) QUALTROUGH who were buried at Pakuranga, Auckland.
